Ingredients

  • 2 oz bourbon or rye whiskey
  • 1/2 oz gingerbread syrup store-bought or homemade
  • 2-3 dashes aromatic bitters such as Angostura
  • Orange peel for garnish
  • Cinnamon stick optional, for garnish
  • Ice preferably a large ice cube

Homemade Gingerbread Syrup

  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp molasses
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp ground allspice
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  • Place a large ice cube into an old-fashioned glass. If you don’t have a large cube, fill the glass with regular ice cubes.
  • Pour 2 oz bourbon, 1/2 oz gingerbread syrup, and 2-3 dashes of aromatic bitters into the glass.
  • Use a bar spoon to gently stir the ingredients for about 20-30 seconds, ensuring they are well combined and chilled.
  • Take a piece of orange peel and hold it over the glass. Gently twist the peel to release its oils, then drop it into the drink. For a festive touch, add a cinnamon stick, which can also serve as a stirrer.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy the warm, spiced flavors of this holiday-inspired cocktail.

  • Strain if necessary and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks.
