- 1 cup hot chocolate store-bought or homemade
- 1 oz Baileys Irish Cream or Kahlua, Amaretto, or peppermint schnapps
- Whipped cream for garnish
- Chocolate shavings cocoa powder, cinnamon, mini marshmallows, or caramel drizzle (Optional garnishes)
For Homemade Hot Chocolate
- 2 cups milk or dairy-free alternative
- 1/4 cup dark chocolate chips or finely chopped chocolate
- 1 tbsp sugar optional
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
If using a store-bought mix, prepare according to the package instructions.
For homemade: In a saucepan, heat 2 cups of milk over medium heat until steaming (do not boil). Add 1/4 cup dark chocolate, 1 tbsp sugar, and a pinch of salt. Whisk until the chocolate melts and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat and stir in 1/2 tsp vanilla extract.
Pour 1 cup of hot chocolate into a mug, leaving some room at the top.
Stir in 1 oz of your chosen liqueur (Baileys, Kahlua, etc.).
Add a generous dollop of whipped cream on top of the drink for a rich and creamy finish.
Sprinkle with chocolate shavings, cocoa powder, or a dash of cinnamon. Add mini marshmallows or drizzle with caramel for extra indulgence.
Serve immediately while the hot chocolate is warm.
