- 2 oz tequila silver or blanco
- 4 oz orange juice freshly squeezed preferred
- 1 oz grenadine
- ½ cup fresh strawberries
- 1 tsp sugar optional, to taste
- Ice cubes enough to fill your glass
- Orange slice and strawberry half for garnish
Wash and hull the strawberries, then blend them into a smooth puree using a blender or food processor.
If desired, strain the puree through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds. Add 1 tsp of sugar if the strawberries are not sweet enough.
Add ice cubes to a tall glass (like a highball glass), filling it almost to the top. This helps maintain the distinct layers.
Pour 2 oz of tequila into the glass, followed by the strawberry puree. Stir gently to combine.
Slowly pour 4 oz of orange juice over the tequila-strawberry mixture, being careful to keep the layers from mixing too much.
Slowly pour 1 oz of grenadine into the glass. It will sink to the bottom, creating the beautiful gradient effect that mimics a sunrise. Pour against the side of the glass or over the back of a spoon for best results.
Add a slice of orange and a halved strawberry to the rim of the glass for a decorative touch.
Serve immediately with a straw, letting your guests admire the layers before gently stirring.
