Ah, Paris. The city of lights. The city of love.

From miniature Eiffel Towers to ‘I Love Paris’ t-shirts, the choices seem endless.
And then there’s the worry – will your chosen souvenirs survive the journey back home?
Or will they end up as sad remnants at the bottom of your suitcase, tokens of broken dreams rather than cherished memories?
The struggle, as they say, is real.

In this post, you'll find...
1. French Cheese
When it comes to the best things to buy in Paris, the first thing that comes to mind is French cheese. And why not? The city of love does have a love affair with cheese, after all!
As they say in Paris, variety is the spice of life, and the variety of different types of cheese you’ll find in these shops will have your taste buds dancing the can-can. Cheese is most definitely one of the most famous French foods to try while in Paris! There’s no better place to pick up a wheel of Camembert or a slab of Roquefort than a Parisian cheese shop.
With over a thousand types to choose from, French cheese is an adventure for the palate. Let’s start with the crowd favorites – Brie, Camembert, and Roquefort. Brie, known as the “Queen of Cheeses,” is creamy and mild, perfect for spreading on a crusty baguette.
Camembert, another soft cheese, is slightly stronger, but its rich, buttery flavor makes it a beloved choice. Now, if you’re in for a punch, Roquefort, a blue cheese from southern France, has a tangy sharpness that is distinct and unforgettable.
If you’re brave, try some of the stinkier offerings – it’s all part of the fun!

2. French Chocolate
Imagine strolling down Boulevard Saint Germain, the cool Seine river breeze wafting through your hair, as you step into a Parisian chocolatier. You’re greeted by the rich, inviting smell of cocoa – welcome to La Maison du Chocolat.
Whether you’re after creamy milk or intense dark chocolate, French chocolates are a great gift for the sweet tooth in your life. It’s a perfect Paris souvenir, especially when paired with their hot chocolate mix.
Just don’t leave it out in the sun!
3. Beauty Products
There’s a reason French women have that… je ne sais quoi. And it’s not just because they’re French!
French beauty products have been a game-changer for beauty enthusiasts worldwide. You can pick up everything from scented soaps to luxurious skincare products in Paris’ many department stores and specialty stores, like the flagship store of L’Occitane on Rue de Rivoli.
Even if you’re a beauty novice, a good thing about these products is that they’re often made with natural ingredients. A tube of French hand cream or a French scented candle could be the perfect souvenir to remind you of the city of lights.
Some of the most adored French beauty products include brands like Caudalie, known for their grape-derived skincare; Nuxe, whose Huile Prodigieuse multipurpose oil is a cult favorite; and Bioderma, whose micellar water is beloved by makeup artists worldwide.
The best thing about buying these in Paris? They’re often significantly cheaper than in the United States, thanks to fewer import and shipping costs! Plus, exploring the city’s beauty shops, from the expansive aisles of CityPharma on the left bank to the beautifully arranged shelves of the L’Occitane flagship store, is an experience in itself.
4. French Macarons
Now, it’s time to visit Pierre Hermé or Ladurée, a pastry shop that’s as Parisian as the Eiffel Tower. It’s your first time buying macarons? Good news! They’re a delicious treat and a great souvenir idea.
Each colorful bite-sized pastry is a little piece of sweet, almond-flavored heaven. Plus, they come in a range of flavors to suit any taste buds – from raspberry to pistachio and everything in between.
These delightful treats are as visually pleasing as they are delicious, making them the perfect gift or souvenir from your time in the French capital.
5. French Berets
No trip to Paris would be complete without picking up a French beret. It’s such a cliché, but in the best way possible.
Picture yourself strolling down the banks of the Seine, a slight chill in the air during the colder months, and your French beret keeping you warm and stylish.
These woolen hats are not just a great souvenir; they’re also a nod to a long-time French tradition. The souvenir shops near Notre Dame Cathedral or in the Latin Quarter are a good spot to grab these.
6. Foie Gras
Another French delicacy, foie gras, is a must-try for any foodie visiting Paris. Yes, it’s a controversial food item due to its production methods, but it’s also a unique taste experience. You can find jars of it in grocery stores or La Grande Epicerie, one of the city’s top food shops.
As a reminder, if you’re from the United States, check the current regulations about bringing foie gras back home before you buy!
7. Dijon Mustard
Are you ready to spice up your life with some Dijon mustard? Take a trip to the Maille Mustard Shop, a great place for a taste sensation.
It’s a far cry from the standard mustard you get at the local grocery store. With unique flavors like white wine and blackcurrant, or Cognac and black truffle, you’re in for a treat.
Your sandwiches will never be the same again, and it’s a great souvenir to bring a bit of French culinary flair back home!
8. French Wine
No one does wine quite like the French.
Whether you’re a fan of a full-bodied Bordeaux or a crisp Sancerre, Paris is the perfect place to pick up a bottle or two. Wine shops around the city offer a vast selection, and staff members are usually more than happy to help you choose the perfect bottle.
Just remember, you’re in Paris, not Napa – don’t ask for ice! And if you have time, consider taking a guided tour of a vineyard outside the city; it’s a great way to learn more about French winemaking traditions.
When it comes to French wines, the options are dazzling. For reds, the complex notes of a Bordeaux or the fruity, spicy flavors of a Burgundy top the list. If you prefer whites, a Sancerre with its crisp minerality or a subtly sweet Alsace Riesling is a must-try.
What sets Paris apart is the ease of access to wines from all the regions of France at reasonable prices, a luxury you’d be hard-pressed to find in the United States. And as for taste, nothing beats the authenticity of savoring a French wine on French soil.
The iconic Nicolas chain, with stores all over Paris, is an excellent place to start your French wine journey. Or if you’re near the Latin Quarter, pop into La Dernière Goutte for hand-selected regional wines.
9. Louis Vuitton
On your first visit to Paris, make a beeline for Avenue Montaigne, home to the Louis Vuitton flagship store. Even if designer goods are a bit out of your price range, it’s worth the visit just to window-shop!
There’s nothing quite like holding a Louis Vuitton bag in your hands – even if it’s just for a second.
And if you’re lucky enough to buy something, not only will you leave with an item of incredible quality, but you’ll also have a lasting memento of your time in the city of love.
Louis Vuitton’s signature monogram bags, such as the Neverfull and the Speedy, are some of the most sought-after items. Not to mention, the LV monogram scarves and wallets, which also make great gifts.
Shopping in Paris gives you access to the most extensive collection of Louis Vuitton items, sometimes including Paris-exclusive pieces. Compared to the United States, you may find the prices slightly lower in Paris, given that it’s the brand’s home country.
Now let’s talk about the VAT (Value Added Tax). As a non-EU visitor, you can claim back a substantial portion of this tax at the airport when you leave France, making your designer purchase even more cost-effective. Just remember to request a ‘detaxe’ form in-store at the time of purchase, keep your receipts, and leave enough time at the airport to process the claim.
Shopping Louis Vuitton in Paris is not just a purchase, it’s a full Parisian luxury experience!
10. French Perfumes
There’s no scent like a French perfume. A whiff can take you straight back to the city of lights, making it one of the best Paris souvenirs.
Whether you’re in search of a new signature scent or just want a reminder of your trip, there’s no better place to find it than in Paris.
Go for a classic like Chanel No. 5 or try something new at a boutique parfumerie in Le Marais. French perfumes can be a bit pricey, but they’re a splurge-worthy souvenir that’s definitely worth the investment.
11. French Lingerie
Ladies, how about a bit of va-va-voom in your life?
French lingerie is world-renowned for its elegance, sophistication, and, yes, its ability to make you feel like a million euros. Shops like Chantelle, Lise Charmel, and Simone Perele offer everything from silk negligees to lacy bras.
Gents, if you’re feeling a bit out of your depth, don’t worry – French lingerie makes a great gift for the lady in your life, too!
12. Vintage Items
If antique furniture or vintage fashion is your thing, then Paris is your playground. The city is a treasure trove of vintage items, from flea markets in the Latin Quarter to boutique shops in Le Marais.
Think embroidered linens, antique clocks, and Art Deco jewelry. Finding these treasures is a fun adventure, and you’re bound to uncover a unique souvenir of your time in Paris.
13. French Cookbooks
If you’ve ever had a French meal that made you say “oh là là”, why not try to recreate it at home?
That’s right – one of the best Paris souvenirs is a French cookbook. Flicking through the pages of a cookbook by Julia Child or a contemporary Parisian chef will not only get your taste buds tingling but will also bring a taste of Paris into your own kitchen.
These books are more than just a collection of recipes, they’re a love letter to French cuisine, beautifully designed, and brimming with delectable dishes. Bon appétit!
14. Parisian Tea
Steep yourself in French culture with a tin of Parisian tea. Whether you’re a tea aficionado or just someone who enjoys a good brew, this is one of the best souvenirs to buy in Paris.
Tea houses like Mariage Frères and Kusmi Tea offer beautifully packaged, high-quality teas with unique flavors like ‘Marco Polo’ or ‘Prince Vladimir’. These teas are more than just a hot beverage, they’re a sensory experience that will whisk you back to the banks of the Seine with every sip.
15. Boutique Jewelry
Who needs a diamond ring when you can have a piece of Parisian boutique jewelry?
This isn’t your run-of-the-mill department store bling. We’re talking about unique, hand-crafted pieces you won’t find anywhere else. Whether it’s a quirky brooch from a flea market stall or a timeless piece from a high-end boutique, Parisian jewelry is a little piece of the city of love that you can carry with you wherever you go.
16. French Stationery
While a picture may be worth a thousand words, there’s still something special about jotting down your thoughts on beautiful French stationery. Maybe it’s the weight of the paper, the elegant design, or the fact that you’re writing on the same kind of paper that Victor Hugo may have used.
French stationery is more than just paper – it’s a piece of history. Whether you’re a book lover, an aspiring writer, or just someone who appreciates fine things, this is one souvenir you won’t want to pass up.
17. Parisian Art
You may not be able to buy the Mona Lisa or bring home a Rodin sculpture, but there’s no shortage of Parisian art to fill that empty wall space back home!
Consider buying a print or reproduction of a famous artwork, or even better, original pieces from local artists. Whether it’s a bustling street scene from Montmartre or a moody oil painting of the Seine, these pieces are a great way to keep your memories of Paris alive.
18. Le Creuset Cookware
Here’s something for the foodies: Le Creuset cookware.
This French brand is the crème de la crème of cookware, known for its colorful, high-quality cast iron pots and pans. They might be on the pricey side, but a Le Creuset piece is more than just a pot; it’s a culinary investment.
Plus, it makes a pretty great dinner party story: “This coq au vin? Oh, I’m just whipping it up in my French Le Creuset pot.”
19. Eiffel Tower Memorabilia
Okay, we know what you’re thinking: Eiffel Tower memorabilia, really? Hear me out.
We’re not talking about the tacky keychains and snow globes (unless you want those). There are tastefully designed miniatures and prints of this iconic Parisian monument that make for a fantastic keepsake or gift.
After all, what better way to remember the city of lights than with a memento of its most famous landmark?
20. French Music
If the food is the soul of Paris, then music is its heartbeat.
Whether it’s the smooth jazz wafting out of a Latin Quarter club or the catchy tunes of a contemporary French pop star, the city is alive with rhythm. Bringing home a CD, vinyl, or even sheet music from your favorite French artist is a great way to keep that Parisian beat going long after you’ve left the city.
21. Marinière (French Striped Shirt)
Want to dress like a Parisian? Get yourself a marinière, the quintessential French striped shirt. This timeless piece of fashion is as stylish as it is versatile and can be dressed up or down for any occasion.
You’ll find these shirts in many shops around Paris, in different styles and colors. Pick the one that suits you best and voila – you’re halfway to being mistaken for a local!
22. Champagne
Pop the cork and let the good times flow! Champagne, the most celebratory of drinks, is synonymous with France. And while the region of Champagne is just a stone’s throw away from the city of lights, you don’t need to leave Paris to get your hands on a bottle of this effervescent delight.
From small boutique shops to larger department stores, there’s no shortage of places to buy champagne in the French capital. So why not grab a bottle or two to toast to your unforgettable Parisian adventure when you’re back home?
Just remember to pack it well for the journey back – it would be a real tragedy if your luggage ended up smelling like the floor of a New Year’s Eve party!
When it comes to French Champagne, classic houses like Moët & Chandon, Veuve Clicquot, and Dom Pérignon are popular choices. These brands offer a range of styles, from brut to rosé, each with its own unique taste profile – from crisp apple notes to creamy, toasted brioche flavors.
And here’s the kicker: purchasing Champagne in Paris can be a more affordable option than in the United States, due to the lower taxes on French wines. So, why not experience the delicate bubbles and unique flavors of true French Champagne? La Grande Epicerie, or Galeries Lafayette on Boulevard Haussmann, are perfect places to pick up a bottle.
But don’t stop at just buying the Champagne, why not visit the place where the magic happens?
If you’re interested in taking a tour of the beautiful Champagne region, check out my article on How to Visit Champagne on A Day Trip from Paris.
Trust me, nothing beats sipping Champagne in the very vineyards where the grapes are grown!
23. Boutique Soaps
Now, who doesn’t love a good soak in the tub after a long day exploring the winding streets of Paris? French soaps, especially those from boutique producers, are renowned for their rich scents and high quality.
From lavender to rose, these soaps encapsulate the very essence of the French countryside and bring a touch of it to your daily routine. They also make a practical and stylish souvenir or gift, often beautifully packaged and decorated. Plus, every time you lather up, you’ll be reminded of your wonderful trip to Paris.
Now that’s a great way to wash away the post-holiday blues!
24. Herbs de Provence
How about bringing a taste of the French countryside back home with you? Herbs de Provence, a blend of dried herbs like thyme, rosemary, oregano, and marjoram, are the essence of Provencal cuisine.
Whether you’re cooking up a storm à la Ratatouille or simply sprinkling it over some grilled vegetables, these herbs will transport you straight back to the rustic charm of southern France. Available in most grocery stores and specialty shops around Paris, this aromatic mix is easy to pack and a real treat for your taste buds.
It might not be a fancy souvenir, but it’s a real flavor bomb!
25. French Pastries
And finally, don’t forget to treat yourself to some French pastries!
While you can’t exactly pack a fresh baguette in your suitcase, many Parisian patisseries sell beautifully packaged madeleines or canelés that can survive the journey home. Just one bite and you’ll be transported back to that charming café by the Seine.
Now that’s a souvenir that your taste buds will thank you for!
When it comes to French pastries, the list is both mouth-watering and endless. A few top contenders include the buttery, shell-shaped Madeleines, the soft and gooey Canelés de Bordeaux, and of course, the exquisite macarons, in all their vibrant colors and flavors. The flaky pain au chocolat or the rich and creamy éclairs are also incredibly popular.
Each bite offers a unique texture and flavor – an exquisite balance of sweet, creamy, crispy, or sometimes, all of them together.
Why try them? Well, French pastries aren’t just food, they’re a taste of French culture – a great way to experience the French “art de vivre.”
For the best, head to some of Paris’ most beloved patisseries, such as Pierre Hermé, Ladurée or L’Eclair de Génie. A stop at any of these pastry havens will introduce you to a world of taste sensations that you didn’t know existed.
Just remember to save some room in your suitcase for these sweet souvenirs!
