When you picture Tulum, what do you see?
White-sand beaches and palm trees?
Stunning ancient Mayan ruins?
A vibrant party scene?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you’re in the right place.
Maybe you’re visiting Tulum on a Spring Break trip, on a day trip from nearby cities like Cancun or Playa del Carmen, or for a girls’ weekend getaway.
Either way, a trip to Tulum is one of the best things to do while visiting Quintana Roo.
And if you are here (or planning your trip), you’re probably wondering what the nightlife situation is like in Tulum.
I spent a week in Tulum back in 2021 and can tell you – the best bars and beach clubs in Tulum are nothing short of magical! From lively open-air restaurants with live music to buzzing nightclubs playing international DJs, there’s something for everyone.
In this post, I’ll break down some do’s and don’ts of Tulum nightlife, and give you my top seven beach club recommendations to experience the best of what Tulum has to offer when it comes to nightlife.
In this post, you'll find...
Does Tulum have a nightlife scene?
Tulum is quite well known for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters, but it also has a bustling nightlife scene! From beach clubs to bars, there’s an abundance of places to explore in Tulum.
The best area in Tulum for partying
Before having a wild night in Tulum, we’ve got to decide where to go. So, where is the party zone in Tulum?
The best area for partying is in the middle beach zone of Tulum. Here you’ll find most of Tulum’s nightlife – all the best clubs, best bars, and popular beach clubs. Perfect for a night out in Tulum!
Tulum Pueblo (or Tulum Town Center) also has a variety of nightclubs and bars, and the best part is that they’re all within walking distance.
Tulum Nightlife – Tips & Advice
When it comes to nightlife in Tulum, there are a few things to keep in mind.
Minimum spend
Firstly, most places require a cover charge and/or minimum spend at the bar. You can expect to spend between $10-30 USD for entry into most beach clubs and some nightclubs here.
Typically the bars in Tulum Town don’t charge an entry fee, but almost any beach club will require a minimum spend.
Don’t worry though, even if you’re on a budget trip to Tulum, you’ll still find tons of places to have a good time here for cheap.

Cash
Some bars accept credit cards but others do not – so make sure to bring enough cash with you! Tulum is well known for not having great internet connection, which is why most places don’t accept credit cards.
The internet reliability here is so weak that sometimes they don’t have enough connection to charge credit cards using their machine. Because of this (and the exchange rate), most of Tulum is cash only.
So for best results, it’s best to plan ahead and have cash ready.
Tipping
In Tulum, the best practice for tipping is 10% of your total bill. This is just a suggestion though – you can always tip more or less depending on how pleased you were with your experience.
If you can, try to tip in pesos instead of US dollars.

7. Taboo Tulum
Best beach club overall
At Taboo Tulum, you’ll experience the best of both worlds – a restaurant, bar, and nightclub all in one.
This place has been known to be a hotspot for locals, who come here to enjoy their delicious Mediterranean plates by day and dance the night away with live DJs at night.
Entry to this club can get pricey, sometimes up to $100 USD depending on the season. But the good news is that they offer different packages with discounts on drinks, food, and even VIP access.
All of which makes it worth the splurge!
I came to Taboo with a group of 3 other travelers and we decided to get a table package which included a bottle of champagne, a bottle of liquor, and some snacks – all for around $100 USD per person.
It wasn’t a cheap experience by any means, but I visited in the high season (May) so I wasn’t at all shocked by the higher prices.
And for the amount of drinks, food and entertainment we got it was well worth it.
The pool at Taboo is pretty cool as well. It’s located on the same level as the bar and restaurant, which makes it easy to go from dancing in the pool to ordering drinks at the bar.
The DJs here played a mix of electro beats and hip-hop classics, which was a nice mix.
The best part, there are beautiful views of Tulum Beach from anywhere you sit at this beach club!
Taboo Tulum also has an outdoor terrace overlooking the lagoon which gives you a unique view of the stars at night. If you’re looking for a wild night out in Tulum, Taboo is definitely the ideal place to be.
