things to do in vegas during the day
Day pool parties in Vegas are liiiiiiiit. | Image: TripAdvisor

Las Vegas is known for its pool parties, but they’re not the only pools worth checking out.

Some of the best things to do in Vegas during the day (especially when visiting Vegas in August or in the summer in general) include spending a few hours soaking up some sun at one of the city’s many pools. Most hotels have pools open year-round, and they even feature live DJs or performers during certain days of the week!

Many pools also feature cabanas and poolside bars, so you can lounge around and enjoy some drinks without ever having to leave your poolside oasis. Some of the most popular pools in Vegas include Encore Beach Club, Ayu Day Club, Drai’s Beach Club, and TAO Beach. These pools fill up fast so you’ll definitely want to buy your ticket in advance.

Also be prepared to spend a few hundred dollars on drinks here, as they can get a bit pricey. But it’s worth it! Nothing says *Las Vegas* like spending the day at a massive pool party, am I right?

Note: For first-timers to the Vegas pool party scene, I recommend this Skip-the-Line VIP Pool Party Tour. It’s an all-inclusive tour that takes you to two of the hottest pool parties in town while riding down the strip on a party bus in between stops. You’ll get to skip the general admission lines and even enjoy complimentary drinks along the way.

Vegas pool parties can be a bit overwhelming, so a guided tour is a great way to dip your toe into the pool party scene… before dipping your toe into the pool party scene.

See what I did there?

8. Visit famous Las Vegas museums

Most people don’t think of museums when they’re looking for daytime things to do in Vegas. But believe it or not, Las Vegas actually has some pretty impressive art and natural history museums that are well worth checking out.

The Neon Museum is one of the best attractions in Vegas and features a collection of iconic neon signs from old casinos and hotels. The Mob Museum is another must-visit for anyone interested in the city’s mafia history. At the Mob Museum, you can learn more about the city’s dark past and even try your luck at the Prohibition-style speakeasy bar.

For family-friendly things to do in Vegas during the day, check out The Natural History Museum or The American Museum of Aviation which features some of the most fascinating artifacts from around the world.

Visiting Vegas Museums may not be as fun and exciting as partying at a pool, but it’s definitely worth doing for those looking to learn more about the city’s history and culture.

9. Learn a new skill

What happens in Vegas doesn’t always have to stay in Vegas. Why not take a class and learn something new while you’re in town? Vegas is home to some of the best instructors offering classes in everything from pole dancing to gun range target shooting.

If you want to try your hand at strip club-style moves, join a beginner pole-dancing class. For those feeling a bit more daring, you can even learn aerial silk-dancing at Las Vegas Circus Center.

If shooting is more your style, there are plenty of gun ranges in Vegas that offer target shooting classes for beginners.

And if you’re looking for something a bit more high-octane, you can even check out Las Vegas Motor Speedway and take a few laps around the track in a go-kart!

10. Visit Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N

Marvel at Marvel’s Avenger S.T.A.T.I.O.N (Scientific Training and Tactical Intelligence Operative Network) located in Treasure Island Hotel & Casino for a unique experience that combines science with superheroes!

Feeling adventurous? One of the Vegas staple attractions is the Big Apple Coaster inside New York-New York Hotel & Casino. This exciting roller coaster takes you on a wild ride with a loop-the-loop, spirals, drops, and hairpin turns.

If you’re looking for a unique way to spend your day in Vegas, this is definitely it. You’ll get thrilling views of the Las Vegas Strip while you ride, and you can even make it a double-loop if you want an extra adrenaline rush!

13. Hike Lake Mead or Red Rock canyon

Aside from tourist attractions, day parties, and gambling, you can find plenty of outdoor activities in Vegas during the day.

Why not spend a few hours hiking Lake Mead or Red Rock Canyon for some breathtaking views and fresh air?

Take on the challenging 8-mile trek around Lake Mead, or go for a destination hike at Red Rock Canyon where you’ll get to explore the massive red rock formations that make up the beautiful canyon. You can choose to rent a car and drive yourself to the lake, or opt for an all-inclusive tour.

This guided Red Rock Canyon Hiking tour has everything you need in one place: Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Vegas for a full-day tour around the lake. You can choose from one of three trails, morning or afternoon hikes, and tailor your tour around your schedule.

If you’re looking for things to do in Vegas during the day, this is definitely one for the list. Outdoor activities provide a great break from all of the hustle and bustle of city life, and some away time can be much needed when visiting such an overstimulating place like Las Vegas.

Vegas is scorching hot during the summer months though, so I don’t really recommend this activity if you’re here during that time.

14. Take a day trip to the Grand Canyon (Best day trip from Vegas)

If you’re looking for things to do outside of Vegas, then make sure to check out the Grand Canyon.

A day trip from Las Vegas is easy and affordable—you can rent a car, join a guided tour, or even take a scenic helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon from the Vegas Strip.

No matter how you choose to get there, a visit to the Grand Canyon is an absolute must-do for anyone who visits Las Vegas. The views are absolutely breathtaking and definitely worth the trip. And if you’re lucky enough to be here during sunset, you’ll get a chance to witness one of nature’s most beautiful spectacles.

You can also choose to explore more of the area and visit other nearby attractions, like the Hoover Dam or the iconic Zion National Park.

A guided tour is your best bet if you’re short on time; many tours will take you around Grand Canyon West and give you a chance to explore some of the park’s stunning trails. This Grand Canyon West Rim bus tour also stops at the Hoover Dam, so you can experience both of the area’s highlights in one go.

You can even cross the Skywalk at the Grand Canyon if you’re brave enough!

15. Visit the Hoover Dam

The Hoover Dam is one of the most iconic attractions in Vegas. This engineering marvel takes visitors on a journey through the history of Las Vegas, and you’ll get to learn about this incredible feat of human ingenuity.

At the Hoover Dam, you can take a guided tour around the dam and its power plant, as well as explore the Visitor Center and Museum. Make sure to also check out the Observation Deck for some stunning views of the Colorado River and the surrounding area! When it comes to things to do in Vegas during the day, visiting the Hoover Dam should definitely be on your list.

It’s a great activity for people of all ages, and a great way to learn about the city and its past. It’s also a nice break from the hustle and bustle of the Vegas Strip.

16. Explore Downtown Las Vegas

If you’re wondering how to spend a day in Vegas, then make sure to check out downtown Las Vegas.

Not only is it home to some amazing restaurants and bars, but there are also plenty of boutiques and shops to explore. From vintage finds to designer threads, you’re sure to find something unique and special in one of the downtown stores!

And of course, lots of great food options.

If you know me (and if you don’t, heyyyyyy, welcome!) you know I wouldn’t be me if I didn’t recommend grabbing a great bite to eat downtown.

Some of the best downtown Vegas eats include Carson Kitchen, Nacho Daddy, the Smashed Pig, and Hugo’s Cellar.

One of my ultimate favorites is Hash House A Go Go – there are a few different locations around town but the one at the LINQ can’t be beat! Here, you’ll find farm-fresh favorites and drinks inspired by famous Midwest meals.

Trust me, don’t skip this place.

I loved it so much that I even wrote a full review on my Hash House A Go Go breakfast experience.

After your lunch, you can take a leisurely stroll around Fremont Street and check out some of the street performers. Or explore one of the many casinos and try your luck on winning some serious cash.

There is truly no shortage of activity in downtown Las Vegas, and you can easily spend an entire day here.

And if you’re looking for things to do at night in Vegas, then downtown is for sure the place to be – but that’s a post for another time.

17. Solve puzzles at an Escape Room

Another great thing to do in Vegas during the day is to go to an escape room. Here, you can join friends and family on a mission to solve puzzles and find clues before time runs out.

Escape rooms are popular all over the world, but only in Las Vegas can you find some truly unique experiences that will keep everyone entertained. From a creepy Haunted House to an Alice in Wonderland-themed room, the possibilities are endless.

Escape rooms are also great for team-building and bonding with your friends or colleagues – plus, you’ll get to show off your detective skills too! Some popular rooms include The Underworld escape room, Suzy’s Cell jail-themed escape room, and The Cabin escape room.

So if you’re looking for fun things to do in Vegas during the day that will keep you busy (and out of the heat!) then make sure to check out an escape room.

18. Get some fresh air at Springs Reserve

Nature buffs will love Springs Reserve, located just a short drive away from the Vegas Strip. Here, you can explore 190 acres of trails and gardens, pass by some amazing desert wildlife, and even take part in educational classes at the Nature Center.

Take a leisurely morning or afternoon stroll through the trails to get an up-close look at the cacti, wildflowers, and other beautiful desert plants. And if you’re lucky, you may even spot some roadrunners, hawks, and lizards! Plus, the Springs Reserve has a lovely botanical garden where you can observe some of the native butterfly species.

Springs Reserve is only a 7-min drive from the Strip, so it’s a great way to get out of the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy some fresh air in nature.

Admission is about $10 for adults and $5 for children. Entry tickets can be purchased at the front gate.

19. Shop til you drop

One thing Vegas is known for is its luxury shopping. From designer stores to unique boutiques, Las Vegas is the one-stop shop for all things fashion. The Strip and downtown are home to some of the best shopping in town, but there are also plenty of hidden gems elsewhere.

The Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood is a great place to browse around and find something special. From high-end stores like Prada and Gucci to more affordable finds such as H&M and Gap, you’re sure to walk away with something special.

One of the most popular places to shop is the Grand Canal Shoppes at the Venetian Resort. This shopping center has over 80 stores and a range of high-end brands like Gucci, Prada, and more. And with the Grand Canal running through it, this shopping center has a unique atmosphere that’s perfect for a day of retail therapy.

If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind shopping experience, then Downtown Container Park is also worth a visit. Located just off Fremont Street, this vibrant outdoor mall features new restaurants and boutiques housed in recycled shipping containers – it’s definitely an interesting place to explore!

20. Take a helicopter tour of Vegas

If you think Vegas looks impressive from the ground, just wait til you see what it looks like from hundreds of feet in the air. Taking a helicopter tour of the city is an incredible way to view Vegas from a different perspective.

Las Vegas Helicopters offer daily tours that start and finish at the Las Vegas Strip, taking passengers on an adventure to some of the most famous sights in town. These include iconic landmarks like The Valley of Fire State Park, Lake Mead, and The Grand Canyon West Rim.

This Las Vegas Helicopter Champagne Tour is an unforgettable way to see the city, and it’s perfect for couples or groups of friends. You’ll soar over the city and cast your gaze at famous sites like Lake Mead, Hoover Dam, Grapevine Mesa, and Joshua Tree.

Then, you’ll take a break from flying and land on the ground floor of the Grand Canyon – 4,000 ft below the West Rim. Here you’ll toast to your Las Vegas adventure with a glass of champagne and picnic lunch.

I mean, seriously.

A helicopter ride AND a champagne toast with picnic lunch.

On the LITERAL floor of the freaking Grand Canyon?

If you’re looking for an unforgettable Vegas experience, this is it.

21. Join a walking tour of the city (Best free thing to do in Vegas)

If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground and stay in the city, then join a walking tour of Las Vegas. These group tours are offered by volunteers and usually last for about two hours. They’re a great way to explore some of the lesser-known parts of the city and get an understanding of its history.

This is also a great option to kill time in between excursions, sightseeing, or shows.

The best part is that these tours are free (or at least pretty cheap!) so you can explore the city without breaking the bank.

Yes, there are in fact free things to do in Vegas, believe it or not.

These walking tours are led by knowledgeable guides who will be able to answer all your questions about the Las Vegas area.

This Downtown Vegas & Fremont Street walking tour is a great introduction to the city and is full of interesting facts. You’ll walk through the downtown area, learn about its history, and visit famous landmarks like the Downtown Container Park and Neon Museum. And best of all, you can get some tips on where to eat and shop in this vibrant part of town.

It’s a paid tour, but it’s worth every penny.

It’s the perfect way to get an overview of Las Vegas and get a feel for the city. It’s also a bit more in-depth and focused than the free tours. Just make sure to bring along some comfortable walking shoes and a bottle of water!

22. Go on a food tour of Vegas

You know what they say – the best way to the heart is through the stomach.

So, when in Vegas, eat like a local!

There are so many delicious foods to try in Vegas, and I highly recommend taking a food tour of the city and discover all the things that make Las Vegas’s culinary scene so special. There are tons of different companies that offer daily tours that will take you on a journey through some of the best restaurants and eateries in town.

You’ll learn about the different cuisines, sample delicious dishes, and get to know the locals who work in and around these restaurants. On top of that, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at some of Vegas’s most popular eateries.

The Original Foodie Tour is an amazing way to spend your day in town. You’ll visit five different restaurants and sample some of the best dishes in Vegas, all while learning about the city’s culinary scene. Plus, you’ll get to meet some of the chefs and learn a bit more about their food and cooking techniques.

This tour includes three different starters, a main dish, and two different desserts. It’s the perfect way to sample a bit of everything and jot down some restaurants that you’ll want to come back to later.

If you ask me, eating your way through Las Vegas is definitely one of the best things to do during the day! There’s such a diverse food scene here that it would be a shame not to try everything Vegas has to offer.

You can explore the life-sized replica of its Grand Staircase, replicas of its cabins, and even see some of its furniture and personal items. The Titanic Exhibition at the Luxor Hotel is home to over 250 recovered items from the sunken luxury ship we know and love.

This is an amazing experience for anyone with a fascination with the Titanic and its history. It’s also great for kids, as they can explore the exhibition and learn about the tragedy of this famous ship. Visiting this exhibition is the perfect way to see what life was like on board the famous ship and get a glimpse of its passengers’ stories. It’s not only educational but also quite emotional as you walk around and imagine what it must have been like for those people all those years ago.

When you’re in Las Vegas during the day, one iconic spot you definitely don’t want to miss is the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas sign. This historic landmark has been welcoming visitors to Sin City since 1959 and is a must-see for both first-time and returning travelers.

During your visit to the sign, here are a few tips to make the most out of your experience:

  • Consider going early in the day – Visiting the sign in the morning is an excellent way to avoid the midday heat and the crowds. Early morning visits also offer better lighting for your pictures, making it easier to capture that perfect shot.
  • Parking is available nearby – There’s a small parking lot directly across the street from the sign, making it convenient for you to stop by for a quick visit. Just be aware that it can fill up quickly during peak times, so be prepared to be patient.
  • Respect other visitors – Since the sign is a popular destination, be mindful of other tourists around you. Take turns when taking pictures, and offer to snap a group photo for others, they might return the favor.

Remember that this Las Vegas icon offers much more than just a photo opportunity. Take a moment to appreciate its unique design and the history behind it, and with the twinkling lights in the background, this simple yet spectacular sign truly highlights the essence of fabulous Las Vegas.

Filled with machines dating from the 1950s all the way to the 1990s, it’s both a trip down memory lane and a fun way to escape the heat. When you first walk in, you’ll notice rows and rows of vintage and not-so-vintage pinball machines waiting for you to play.

The best part? Most of the old-school games only cost 25 cents, while newer ones may range from 50 to 75 cents per play.
