A common misconception about introverts is that they have difficulty socializing and interacting with others. And most commonly, they don’t like to travel – or ever even leave the house!
Well, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Many introverts love to travel solo and can enjoy the experience just as much, if not more than extroverts.
As an introvert myself, I know the power of solo travel.
Roaming solo can bring out the best in your solo traveling self – even if you’re normally shy or don’t like to be around large groups of people.
It might seem scary at first, but going on a solo trip as an introvert is truly one of the most rewarding experiences.
By taking the plunge and solo traveling, you get to explore new places in your own way, at your own pace, and on your own terms. No need to compromise!
So if you’re an introvert looking to take a solo trip but feeling a bit apprehensive about it, don’t fret! Here are some tips to make your solo travel journey easier, plus the best destinations for solo travelers who want to stay solo.
In this post, you'll find...
Best Tips for Navigating Solo Travel as an Introvert
1. Choose a destination that suits your introverted personality and interests. If you’re more of an introvert who loves to explore nature, consider visiting places like Iceland or the Swiss Alps for stunning views and plenty of solo exploration opportunities.
2. Take it slow. Don’t overwhelm yourself by booking too many activities or excursions – solo travel can be as intense as you want it to be. Give yourself permission to relax and take your time, instead of making it a mission to do everything.
3. Make sure you have the right resources for solo travel safety and security. Get familiar with your destination’s safety protocols, emergency services, and tools like solo female traveler apps.
4. Get comfortable with being alone – and accept it! As an introvert, you might be used to spending lots of quality time with yourself. Embrace the solitude and enjoy getting to know your solo self better on your journey.
5. Listen to your gut! Always trust your intuition when solo traveling – if something doesn’t feel right, don’t do it. It’s OK to say no or change your plans at the last minute if you need to.
6. Take advantage of tours. For solo travelers who are just starting out, try taking a guided tour or joining an organized group so you can learn more about the destination without feeling too overwhelmed. This is one of my favorite things to do when traveling alone!

How do you socialize when traveling alone?
Socializing when you’re traveling alone is honestly probably easier than you think. Oftentimes, I find it easier to socialize and make friends when I’m traveling alone than when I’m with friends or family.
The best way to go about socializing solo is to step out of your comfort zone and be open to meeting new people!
Reach out to locals, join group activities like tours or cooking classes, or stay in a hostel – these are all great ways to meet other solo travelers who may become friends for life!
You can also join solo travel groups on social media – this way, you’ll be able to connect with other solo travelers before and during your trip.
Socializing solo is all about putting yourself out there and getting comfortable with the uncomfortable. Once you do that, solo travel and socializing will become second nature!
Does solo travel get lonely?
Solo travel can definitely be lonely sometimes.
But this is the beauty of solo travel – it’s a great way to get to know yourself and understand your own needs better.
Taking solo trips allows you to focus on yourself and do whatever makes you happy! So, don’t worry if solo travel gets lonely – just remind yourself that you’re doing this for yourself and that solo travel is an amazing opportunity to grow as a person.
If solo travel does start to feel lonely, there are plenty of ways to combat it.
As I mentioned before, joining solo travel groups on social media or staying in hostels are great ways to and meet explore other solo travelers. You can also book tours and classes or spend time at cafes, co-working spaces, or bars.
Solo travel is an incredible experience, so don’t let the idea of being lonely stop you from taking solo trips. Embrace solo travel for what it is – a way to learn more about yourself and explore the world on your own terms!

Is solo travel awkward?
I’ll admit, I did struggle with feeling awkward when I first started solo traveling. But solo travel doesn’t have to be awkward – in fact, it can actually be incredibly empowering and liberating.
The key thing is to focus on your own experience and ignore any negative thoughts that come up. Instead of worrying about what other people may think, keep your attention firmly on the present moment and the unique solo travel experience that you’re having.
You’ll be surprised to find that solo travel is just as enjoyable (if not more so!) than traveling with others. I guarantee you won’t look back once you give solo traveling a try.
Final thoughts…
Solo travel for introverts doesn’t have to be intimidating – with just a bit of preparation and research, solo travelers can feel confident embarking on an adventure all by themselves. Explore these amazing destinations at your own pace, listen to your intuition, and enjoy discovering yourself in the process.
