While you could spend your entire day driving to the top of the mountain and back, we recommend exploring the charming town of Chamonix first. This town is located at the base of Mont Blanc, and it’s the perfect place to start your mountain adventure.
There are a number of great things to do in Chamonix, including visiting the Aiguille du Midi, taking a cable car up to the top of the glacier, or hiking one of the many trails in the area.
There’s also a number of excellent restaurants and cafes in Chamonix, so be sure to stop for lunch or a coffee before heading up the mountain.

Museum of the Resistance and Deportation of Isère

One of my favorite things to do when visiting a city close to a bordering country is to take a day trip outside of the city. And Grenoble is no exception – it’s just a quick train ride from Grenoble to Geneva, Switzerland!
Geneva is a beautiful city located on the shores of Lake Geneva and at the base of the Alps. There’s plenty to see and do in Geneva, including visiting the Old Town, checking out the amazing views from St. Pierre Cathedral, taking a cruise on Lake Geneva, or simply strolling around and enjoying the city’s many parks and gardens.
There are also a number of excellent museums in Geneva, such as the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum, the Patek Philippe Museum, and the Museum of the History of Science. And if you’re a chocolate lover, be sure to check out one of Geneva’s many chocolate shops!
A day trip to Geneva is the perfect way to add a little international flavor to your Grenoble vacation. And with so much to see and do, you’re sure to have a great time!
The best way to make the most of of your time in Geneva is to take a Hop on Hop off Sightseeing Bus Tour. This is a great way to see all the major sights of the city and learn about its history and culture. You can (as the name suggests) hop on and off the bus as often as you like, and there are also a number of different tour routes to choose from.
If you’ve got a little extra time to spend in Geneva and want to see its surrounding cities, take a half day trip to the French city of Annecy. Annecy is often called the Venice of the Alps, and it’s easy to see why – this charming city is located on the shores of Lake Annecy and is filled with canals, bridges, and colorful buildings. A day trip to Annecy is definitely a highlight of any Grenoble vacation!

Castle Sassenage

Have you ever dreamed of walking through the halls of a real-life castle? Well, you can make that dream a reality at the Castle Sassenage! This unique 16th century castle is located in the town of Sassenage, just outside of Grenoble.
The castle was built in 1665 during the reign of Louis XIII, and it served as a residence for the local lord until the French Revolution. Today, the castle is open to the public and offers guided tours (in French) of the main floor and attic. Visitors can also explore the castle grounds on their own.
The interior of the castle has been beautifully preserved, and it’s easy to imagine what life was like for the lords and ladies who once lived there. The castle grounds are also lovely, with a vast park, majestic tall trees, and lush gardens.

Parc naturel régional du Vercors

* Save time by booking activities, tours, and attraction tickets in advance with Viator or Get Your Guide. They always have great deals and it’s super important to book ahead of time, especially if you’re traveling during high season!
* For unique dining experiences with locals in the area you’re visiting, I recommend EatWith.
Don’t forget travel insurance!
* Travel can be unpredictable and things can go wrong, so make sure you’re covered with travel insurance. I always use Travel Insurance Master when I travel – they have great coverage and are very reasonably priced.
